Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people, and achieved superstar status through his pop-folk songs based on folk, with a lot of them being set in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in love with Colorado and eventually relocated to Aspen. Denver's national anthems to his adopted state have attracted many people to Colorado. I don't think there's any other performer who embodies Colorado like John Denver said G. Brown director of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. In the year 2011, Denver was named the first Hall of Fame inductee. He is now the face of Colorado on the world stage. When you encounter people from other countries, like New Zealanders and ask them "I am from Colorado" then they immediately react with Oh John Denver. Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief time in folk groups and was his debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff composed the track along with Johnny Cash in mind but the moment Denver was introduced to an earlier version immediately, he realized the song could be an instant hit. The singer recorded the song just a few days later following a performance to crowds of enthusiastic fans in Washington D.C.
